No More Outrage

This comes from a very interesting conversation I had in a class. There is no more outrage with events on the news. We see tragic events that have taken place or natural disasters that create a tremendous amount of damage. We see these events that take place get major attention for 3 days at the most and after that no one seems to care. Before there use to be more outrage the viewers demanded more news on those tragic events.

For instance the las vegas shooting was a very tragic event that toke place it got major attention but a few days later you don’t really hear anything about it. As soon as something more important or viral comes along those events lose attention. For example right now all major news have been pushed aside due to the Weinstein allegations that have been made.

There have been numerous hurricanes that have occurred back to back that left a tremendous amount of devastation and death. Once the hurricanes stopped and things start to set to a norm no one hears about how the people are doing and what is being done to restore the cities. We are currently living in a world that simply does not care about all the devastation occurring. People no longer care about the tragic events taking place. If I does not involve someone personally they have zero interest in what is occurring.

I agree with the premise that whatever the major media decides is more sensational at that moment becomes the story to present. The tragic loss of life and property from our record hurricane season and the senceless loss of life in Las Vegas became ‘yesterday’s news’ when the Weinstein news broke. As devastating to many as the acts of this alleged pervert are to those involved, reporting of it in the mainstream media does not belong on the same platform as epic natural disasters or mass murder. The struggles of those who lost family, friends, and property goes on for the most part unreported, while those who depend on mass media for their only source of news get daily updates on Weinstein and Roman Polanski’s decent behavior.

I totally agree that what perverts like Weinstein and Roman Polanski have been getting away with for years is appalling and has caused a great deal of harm to many. Given the major media’s goal of viewership, it is indeed sad that the reason they give as much attention to these actions as they do to natural disasters and mass murder is because that is what they the majority of their viewers care about. I hope for the sake of humanity that no one would rather have a daily update of celebrity deviant behavior than be informed about the recovery efforts of those who lost family, friends or property. Weinstein and Polanski have caused great harm to many and should face the outrage of the country, but not as the expense of not reporting on ongoing events that will forever change the lives of thousands.
